About Commvault&nbsp;
Commvault (NASDAQ: CVLT) is the gold standard in cyber resilience. The company empowers customers to uncover, take action, and rapidly recover from cyberattacks – keeping data safe and businesses resilient. The company’s unique AI-powered platform combines best-in-class data protection, exceptional data security, advanced data intelligence, and lightning-fast recovery across any workload or cloud at the lowest TCO. For over 25 years, more than 100,000 organizations and a vast partner ecosystem have relied on Commvault to reduce risks, improve governance, and do more with data.&nbsp;</div><h2>About the Team</h2>
The Clumio backend team designs, builds, and operates the cloud-native systems behind Clumio's data protection solutions — from the core SaaS platform to the systems that back up and recover large volumes of enterprise cloud data. In these environments backup is a compliance-, audit-, and security-driven requirement rather than a nice-to-have, so recovery performance, cost efficiency, and reliable operation at scale are our key differentiators.
Built on a fully cloud-native architecture, the platform scales dynamically with workload, delivers faster recovery and lower cost than native cloud backup, and stays correct under real-world failure conditions through reprocessing and retries. Beyond core backup and recovery, the team also builds customer onboarding, metering and billing, reporting, alerting, and ML-driven insights. We operate a mature, production-proven platform on AWS — including Amazon S3, DynamoDB, and the industry's first data protection solution for Apache Iceberg — and are actively expanding into multi-cloud data protection across GCP and Azure.
<h2>Role Overview</h2>
As a Software Engineer on the Clumio backend team, you implement and deliver features and components within the data protection platform, working under the guidance of Senior and Principal Engineers. This role focuses on writing reliable, maintainable, production-ready code as part of larger systems that are critical to customer-facing operations.
You take problems from implementation through to production — building features and workflows, writing tests, and helping operate and improve them once they ship. You make sound implementation decisions within an established design, learning to balance correctness, simplicity, and performance, and you grow your ownership of specific components over time.
This is a role built for growth. You'll learn how large-scale, cloud-native data protection systems are designed, operated, and kept correct under real-world failure — working on problems of genuine scale rather than toy projects. With close mentorship from Senior and Principal Engineers and regular code review, you'll sharpen your engineering fundamentals, take on steadily larger and more complex work, and grow along a clear path toward broader system ownership.
<h2>Basic Qualifications</h2>
<ul>
<li>Software engineering experience through professional roles internships, or academic and personal projects.</li>
<li>Solid grounding in computer science fundamentals — data structures, algorithms, and complexity analysis — with the ability to apply them to practical problems.</li>
<li>Proficiency in at least one modern programming language (e.g., Go, Java, Python, C++, Rust).</li>
<li>Ability to break a problem down into a correct, maintainable solution, and the instinct to ask clarifying questions when requirements are unclear.</li>
<li>A willingness to learn how production systems are built, operated, and debugged, with support from the team.</li>
<li>Working knowledge of English.</li>
</ul>
<h2>Preferred Qualifications</h2>
<ul>
<li>Experience contributing features to a larger backend or cloud-native platform.</li>
<li>Familiarity with at least one cloud platform (AWS, GCP, or Azure) and common cloud-native design patterns.</li>
<li>Familiarity with data-intensive systems, object storage, or large-scale backend services.</li>
<li>Exposure to backup, disaster recovery, or data protection systems.</li>
</ul>
<h2>You’ll Love Working Here Because ...</h2>
<ul>
<li>Collaborate with amazing, driven, and supportive team members.</li>
<li>Enjoy continuous professional growth through product training, development programs, and clear career pathways.</li>
<li>Work on high-impact, large-scale cloud data protection systems used by global enterprises.</li>
<li>Thrive in an inclusive, open culture with opportunities to connect through our community groups.</li>
<li>Take advantage of generous global benefits tailored to support your well-being.</li>
<li>Receive competitive compensation that reflects your impact.</li>
<li>Share in our success through our Employee Stock Purchase Plan.</li>

For over 25 years, more than 100,000 organizations and a vast partner ecosystem have relied on Commvault to reduce risks, improve governance, and do more with data.&nbsp;</div>About the Team
The Automation team at Clumio (Commvault) works closely with the backend team to help build and validate a cloud-scale SaaS backup platform that helps enterprises meet their cloud data protection needs. For many customers, backup is not a “nice-to-have” — it is a mandatory foundation driven by compliance, audit, and security requirements, where recovery speed, cost efficiency, and the ability to handle large-scale data are critical differentiators in real-world environments.
Our systems protect and recover large volumes of cloud object data in a cloud-native way. Compared to native cloud backup solutions, we deliver up to 10× faster recovery times, roughly half the cost for S3 workloads, and the ability to reliably support significantly larger data scales. These outcomes come from deliberate engineering decisions across system architecture, data flows, and failure-handling strategies.The platform is designed to gracefully handle and recover from failures through reprocessing and retries, while maintaining correctness and reliability at scale. The team operates a proven platform built on Amazon S3 and DynamoDB and is now expanding into multi-cloud data protection across GCP and Azure — an opportunity to apply and evolve our approach across diverse cloud ecosystems.
Beyond our SaaS solutions, we are also building AI agents that help our customers get more value from their data and operations. As a team, we embrace modern engineering practices, including agentic AI-assisted coding, to build and ship faster — and you will have the opportunity to work hands-on with these tools and techniques.

The company’s unique AI-powered platform combines best-in-class data protection, exceptional data security, advanced data intelligence, and lightning-fast recovery across any workload or cloud at the lowest TCO. For over 25 years, more than 100,000 organizations and a vast partner ecosystem have relied on Commvault to reduce risks, improve governance, and do more with data.
<h2>About the Team</h2>
As a Principal Engineer on the Clumio backend team, you serve as a senior technical leader across the data protection platform. Reporting to the Engineering Director, this role combines deep hands-on engineering with broad architectural ownership, shaping systems that are foundational to customer trust and recovery guarantees.
You define and drive the long-term technical vision and cross-cutting initiatives that span multiple services and define core platform capabilities. This includes designing and evolving system abstractions, making high-impact architectural decisions that balance correctness, cost, scalability, performance, and operational simplicity, and leading the most complex and ambiguous technical initiatives from design through production rollout. You set technical direction and standards that ensure consistency across teams and systems, and you ensure those decisions are realized in high-quality production systems.
You remain deeply hands-on, spending significant time writing and reviewing code, solving complex technical problems, and participating in production operations. You work closely with Senior and Junior Engineers, Cloud Engineering, Quality Engineering, Product, and Customer Success to guide designs, mentor technical leaders, incorporate operational and customer feedback, and establish durable architectural patterns that allow the platform to scale and evolve across multiple cloud environments.
<h2>Basic Qualifications :</h2>
<ul>
<li>8+ years of professional software engineering experience, including significant ownership of complex production systems.</li>
<li>Experience leading ambiguous, high-impact technical initiatives from problem definition through production delivery.</li>
