Senior Software Engineer: Platform SRE

Every engineer at Flexport ships code that moves real freight across 112 countries. The faster, more reliable and safer they can do that, the faster the world's supply chains move. The PSI (Platform, Security & Infrastructure) team makes this possible: we build and operate the infrastructure and foundations that hundreds of engineers rely on to run Flexport's products around the clock.

This is not a role where you wait for tickets. You'll look across systems, identify risks before they become incidents, and work with the software engineering and security teams to make our infrastructure more resilient, observable, efficient, secure, and easier to operate.

What You'll Do

You'll help build and operate the infrastructure that powers Flexport engineering. That means:

Designing, building and operating reliable, scalable infrastructure in AWS and other cloud platforms

Contributing to our container orchestration (Kubernetes), Helm charts, deployment systems (Argo) and the guardrails around them to ensure engineers can safely deploy, run, understand and debug their services

Improving our observability stack (Openmetrics, Datadog) to make insights into our systems as good and easy to understand as possible

Following and helping refine standards for our Infrastructure-as-Code codebases (Terraform)

Supporting developers with CI/CD pipelines (Buildkit, Github Actions), build tooling (Gradle, Bazel, npm/pnpm/bun, Go and Cargo) and artifact repositories (Artifactory, ECR, github)

Improving our incident response tooling to ensure we can efficiently handle incidents when they occur

Partnering with product teams to ship changes that impact the wider engineering org

You Should Have

5+ years of software engineering experience, site reliability engineering or infrastructure engineering experience, with meaningful time spent on production system infrastructure

Solid knowledge of cloud infrastructure, with hands-on AWS experience

Strong Infrastructure-as-Code skills, preferably with Terraform, and an eye for safe, reusable infrastructure patterns. Clickops should be your tool of last resort

Solid software engineering skills and the ability to build automation and production tooling in a general-purpose programming language

Experience participating in incident response and blameless post-mortems or COE processes

A proactive mindset: you're comfortable with ambiguity and can identify high-leverage problems without waiting to be told what to do

Good judgment around infrastructure: security, IAM, networking and change management

Strong communication: you can write a clear design or incident document and explain operational tradeoffs

A generally helpful attitude. Everyone should know you within no time as the person who gets stuff unblocked, points them in the right direction and makes their work easier. The 90's can keep their BOFH.

A drive for impact: you care about our systems being reliable and want engineers to feel confident operating what they own

Nice to Have

Experience operating AWS at scale across multiple accounts, regions and availability zones

Experience with GitOps and continuous delivery tooling such as Argo CD

Experience with Identity and Access Management, including OIDC

Exposure to disaster recovery, business continuity, or resilience testing

Experience improving cloud cost efficiency and resource utilization

How We Work

We come to the office 3 times a week to hang out, whiteboard, and ship together

We have the latest hardware and software, including frontier AI models on day one

We're agile, but not dogmatic. Teams decide how they work best

Why This Role Is Special

Real leverage: the improvements you ship are felt across hundreds of engineers and thousands of deploys a day

Strong ownership: you'll drive meaningful pieces of design, implementation, and rollout

You help shape the foundation: the infrastructure patterns and operational standards the team sets become how Flexport engineering runs software for years to come

What's in it for you:

An opportunity to contribute to one of the fastest-growing companies, where you’ll have the chance to create a global impact while being a part of a thriving multinational environment

Daily catered lunches including vegetarian options, breakfast, snacks and soft drinks available in our office

Commute expenses: Flexport will cover home-office commuting costs for employees living outside of Amsterdam

25 working days as vacation days based on full time employment.

Health insurance: Flexport offers a collective health insurance plan including a basic package and several additional packages. Your monthly premium is fully paid by Flexport.

A defined pension contribution scheme

Equity program: every team member becomes a shareholder, aligning our success with yours. As a private company in a multi-trillion dollar industry, you have a direct stake in our collective growth and success.

Employee Assistance Program through Aetna Resources for Living: Flexport provides an employer-sponsored program at no cost to you and your household members

Parental leave benefit: Flexport is here to support you and your families in one of the most important times in life - the birth of a child! Our parental leave program allows both mothers and partners to take time off from work for pregnancy, childbirth, and to bond with your new child.

The recent global supply chain crisis has put Flexport center stage as we continue to play a pivotal role in how goods move around the world. We are proud to have the support of the best investors in the game who believe in our mission, solutions and people. Ready to tackle global challenges that impact business, society, and the environment? Come join us.

Why Customs Matters More Than Ever

International trade is under more pressure than ever before. With tariffs, shifting regulations, and geopolitical uncertainty, customs has gone from a back-office function to a boardroom priority. The recent trade crisis—sparked by Trump-era tariffs—has made customs the single most complex challenge for global businesses. For many, it’s the difference between keeping supply chains moving or grinding them to a halt.

That’s where we come in. The Customs Technology team at Flexport is leading the charge. We are building the systems that help entrepreneurs and global brands navigate complexity, stay compliant, and keep the world’s goods flowing.

The opportunity:

Customs brokerage is one of the largest, most under-innovated opportunities in logistics. Legacy customs brokers are stuck with outdated systems and manual processes—they simply can’t adapt fast enough.

Flexport is growing fast because we’re different. We are the only big tech company in the space, and the only freight forwarder that got founded after the launch of Netscape. Being a tech company, we can move much faster than our competitors, and give our customers the service they expect in this day and age. We can deploy things like LLM agents at scale, in an industry that is ripe to be disrupted by this technology.

Things we ❤️

Leveraging AI in a safe way to eliminate mundane work for customs brokers and automate customs every step of the way

Modeling complex and ambiguous domains into fully automated workflows

Building highly performant and reliable Kotlin services on our cutting-edge infrastructure platform

Collaborating with end users across the globe to create the best possible product: removing toil and surfacing interesting cases

You will:

Work closely with business partners and product managers to distill complex business problems into elegant technical solutions.

Work on systems that represent the real-world intricacies of logistics entities and the process of moving cargo in and out of countries.

Build and launch products rapidly and incrementally. We ship to production dozens of times per day.

Geek out about shipping, customs regulations and logistics. (We do this often.)

Figure out the most efficient way for our customers and partners to participate in the process of moving freight across borders.

Design and build deep, complex integrations with government agencies and partners.

Automate archaic customs filing processes and save the operations team thousands of phone calls per week.

Deliver supply chain insights to logistics teams via a world-class analytics experience.

Create beautiful and efficient domain models for the incredibly complex world of freight forwarding.

You should have:

> 3 years of experience writing software, and a strong engineering background.

A love of simple, well-tested code that is easy to extend and hard to break.

The ability to convey technical ideas in common terms to business partners, product managers, designers and engineers alike.

A bias for action. When you see a problem, you solve it.

A desire to develop your tooling repertoire. We are tech-agnostic regarding candidate background, but our platform is built with Ruby.

Non-optional: an aptitude for learning quickly.

How we work:

We come to the office at two to three times a week to hang out, have lunch, white board, and collaborate

We have the latest and greatest hardware and software for you to work with

We’re agile, but not married to a single doctrine like scrum. The teams decide how they work best.

Stack: we’re coming from a React/Flow + Ruby on Rails monolith, and moving to React/Typescript, Kotlin Microservices on Kubernetes. We also use and love GraphQL, GRPC, Postgres, Kafka and Snowflake

What's in it for you?

The recent global supply chain crisis has put Flexport center stage as we continue to play a pivotal role in how goods move around the world. We are proud to have the support of the best investors in the game who believe in our mission, solutions and people. Ready to tackle global challenges that impact business, society, and the environment? Come join us.

Staff Software Engineer: Platform SRE

Every engineer at Flexport ships code that moves real freight across 112 countries. The faster , more reliable and safer they can do that, the faster the world's supply chains move. The PSI (Platform, Security & Infrastructure) team makes this possible: we build and operate the infrastructure and foundations that hundreds of engineers rely on to run Flexport’s products around the clock.

This is not a role where you wait for tickets. You'll look across systems, identify risks before they become incidents, and work with the software engineering and security teams to make our infrastructure more resilient, observable, efficient, secure, and easier to operate.

What You'll Do

You'll own and evolve the infrastructure that powers Flexport engineering. That means:

Designing, building and operating reliable, scalable infrastructure in AWS and other cloud platforms

Evolving our container orchestration (Kubernetes), Helm charts, deployment systems (Argo) and the guardrails around them to ensure engineers can safely deploy, run, understand and debug their services

Evolving our observability stack (Openmetrics, Datadog) to make insights into our systems as good and easy to understand as possible.

Setting standards for our Infrastructure-as-Code codebases (Terraform)

Creating and supporting developers with CI/CD pipelines (Buildkit, Github Actions), build tooling (Gradle, Bazel, npm/pnpm/bun, Go and Cargo) and artifact repositories (Artifactory, ECR, github)

Improving our incident response tooling to ensure we can efficiently handle incidents when they occur

Crossing organizational boundaries to align with product teams and ship changes that impact the whole engineering org

You Should Have

10+ years of software engineering experience, site reliability engineering or infrastructure engineering experience, with significant time spent on production system infrastructure

Deep knowledge of cloud infrastructure, with hand-on AWS experience

Strong Infrastructure-as-Code skills, preferably with Terraform and a track record of creating safe and reusable infrastructure patterns. Clickops should be your tool of last resort

Solid software engineering skills and the ability to build automation and production tooling in a general-purpose programming language

Experience leading incident response, conducting blameless post-mortems or COE processes and executing on the follow ups.

An independent mindset: you thrive in ambiguity, find the highest-leverage problems yourself, and don't wait to be told what to do

Sound judgment around infrastructure: you will make the right decisions around security, IAM, networking and change management

Excellent communication: you can write a clear design or incident document, explain operational tradeoffs, and align stakeholders across teams on platform-wide changes

A generally helpful attitude. Everyone should know you within no-time as the person who gets stuff unblocked, points them in the right direction and makes their work easier. The 90’s can keep their BOFH.

A drive for impact: you're not satisfied until our systems are reliable and every engineer is confident operating what they own

Nice to Have

Experience operating AWS at scale across multiple accounts, regions and availability zones

Experience with GitOps and continuous delivery tooling such as Argo CD

Experience with Identity and Access Management at scale, including OIDC

Experience designing disaster recovery, business continuity, and resilience testing programs

Massive leverage: every improvement you ship is multiplied across hundreds of engineers and thousands of deploys a day

Full ownership: design, implementation, rollout, and impact measurement: it's yours

You shape the foundation: the infrastructure patterns and operational standards you set become how Flexport engineering runs software for years to come

We're looking for a Staff Product Manager to own and drive strategy across a product domain at Flexport. This is not a single-feature role. You will define the vision for how multiple product surfaces work together to serve clients and operators across global logistics, then execute against that vision with a high degree of autonomy.

Flexport's platform powers every stage of global freight, from booking and pricing to visibility, customs, and delivery. The products you shape will be used daily by logistics managers, supply chain leaders, freight operators, and internal teams who keep goods moving around the world. You will work across multiple engineering teams and coordinate with other PMs to ensure your domain delivers cohesive, measurable outcomes. You will also raise the bar for the PM team through mentorship, better frameworks, and sharper thinking on the hardest product problems we face.

This is a role for someone with deep product experience, strong analytical instincts, and the ability to operate at both the strategic and execution level in a complex, data-rich environment.

The team:

The Visibility team owns the end-to-end mapping and tracking of physical goods across global logistics. We solve complex supply chain workflows at the system root-cause level using data, product intuition, and highly structured logic. Our team is responsible for defining the client-facing tracking experience based on real physical execution capabilities, driving operational and system changes across execution, planning, and technology teams.

You will:

Define and drive product strategy across the Visibility domain that spans multiple teams, user types, or workflow stages

Own the end-to-end mapping, tracking, and visibility of physical goods across the entire shipment lifecycle

Drive end-to-end data intelligence to solve complex operational problems and define next-generation client-facing visibility experiences

Partner across execution, planning, and technology teams to align priorities and ship integrated systems across surfaces

Collaborate closely across a global footprint (Hong Kong, Europe, US) with China engineering teams, participating in regular cross-border syncs

Use data to set direction, not just measure results. Building metrics frameworks that connect product usage to business outcomes and using them to guide investment decisions across your domain

Break down ambiguous, cross-cutting problems into concrete product plans that multiple teams can execute against

Represent your domain in leadership forums, influencing resource allocation and strategic direction

Mentor PMs on the team: improving how we write specs, prioritize, communicate trade-offs, and ship

You should have:

8+ years of product management experience

Background solving complex logistics, physical operational, or system root-cause problems using algorithmic planning, data analysis, and structured logic

Demonstrated ability to own a product domain (not just a feature or single product area) and lead product roadmaps spanning 2 to 3 years across multiple engineering teams

Strong analytical and quantitative skills. You build metrics frameworks, write your own queries, and use data to settle debates. SQL proficiency required

Proven ability to operate at the strategy level (where should we invest, and why) and the execution level (what ships this quarter, and what does "done" look like) in the same week

Excellent written and verbal communication, especially the ability to frame trade-offs, present recommendations to senior leadership, and create clarity in ambiguous situations

We are proud to have the support of the best investors in the game who believe in our mission, solutions and people. Ready to tackle global challenges that impact business, society, and the environment? Come join us.

Senior Software Engineer: Applied AI

Every day, thousands of shipments cross borders, change hands, and hit unexpected problems. For decades, fixing those problems meant phone calls, emails, and humans heroically firefighting. We think that's about to change completely.

We've been building AI agents that spot trouble before it happens, reroute shipments, and keep goods moving—with our team of experts in the loop where it counts. The early results have been jaw-dropping. We're now going all in on a future where supply chains run themselves, and we're looking for the people who want to build that future with us.

This isn't a role where you join a team and pick up tickets. You'll find the highest-leverage problems, design the solutions, and ship them to operators moving freight across 112 countries. If that sounds like your idea of a good time, read on.

What You'll Do

You'll build the cutting-edge agents and AI-powered applications that make Flexport's operations smarter, faster, and increasingly autonomous. That means:

Designing and shipping end-to-end AI agents that handle real logistics work—customs compliance, document processing, exception management, and more.

Crossing organizational boundaries to understand problems deeply, align stakeholders, and get things done without waiting for permission.

Moving fast from idea to production, treating every deployment as a learning opportunity.

Working directly with operators, domain experts, and leadership to turn ambiguous problems into shipped solutions.

You Should Have

5+ years of software engineering experience; you've built with LLMs extensively - whether in production, side projects, or just because you couldn't stop yourself.

Strong product instincts: you can identify what's worth building, not just execute on a spec.

LLM fluency: agent patterns, RAG, prompt engineering, tool use, evaluation. You know what works in production and what looks good in demos.

Full-stack capability in TypeScript and Next.js - you can own a feature end-to-end.

An entrepreneurial drive: you thrive in ambiguity, move fast, and don't wait to be told what to do.

Excellent communication: you can work across teams and disciplines to get alignment and unblock yourself.

An audacious appetite for impact: you're not here to maintain—you're here to change how global trade works.

Nice to Have

Experience with workflow orchestration (Temporal, etc.).

Experience building internal tools or operator-facing applications.

How We Work

We come to the office 3 times a week to hang out, whiteboard, and ship together.

We have the latest hardware and software—including frontier AI models on day one.

We're agile, but not dogmatic. Teams decide how they work best.

Stack: Next.js, TypeScript, Postgres, Snowflake. For AI: Anthropic, OpenAI, Google AI APIs.

Why This Role Is Special

Your work is visible: This is a small, senior team reporting directly to the VP of Engineering. What you build gets noticed, and your ideas shape the direction.

Real stakes: thousands of containers, 112 countries, $19 billion of goods. Your agents will have immediate, measurable impact.

Full ownership: from problem definition to production deployment, it's yours.

You're early: the playbook for applied AI in enterprise logistics doesn't exist yet - you'll help write it.

What's in it for you?

An opportunity to contribute to one of the fastest-growing companies, where you’ll have the chance to create a global impact while being a part of a thriving multinational environment

Daily catered lunches incl. vegetarian options, breakfast, snacks and soft drinks available in our office on daily basis

Commute expenses: Flexport will cover home-office commuting costs for employees living outside of Amsterdam

25 working days as vacation days based on full time employment.

Health insurance: Flexport offers a collective health insurance plan including a basic package and any available additional packages.

Parental leave benefit: Flexport is here to support you and your families in one of the most important times in life – the birth of a child! Our parental leave program allows both mothers and partners to take time off from work for pregnancy, childbirth, and to bond with your new child.
