Role Overview We are seeking a DFM Engineer to join our Project Engineering team.
This role is a replacement due to a recent termination. The DFM Engineer will collaborate closely with customers across various industries — including aerospace, defense, automotive, industrial, and medical devices — to evaluate manufacturability, optimize designs, and ensure successful project delivery. You will work directly with Xometry’s manufacturing partners, internal teams, and customers to solve engineering challenges and support production execution.
Key Responsibilities
Evaluate customer designs for manufacturability and recommend improvements using Xometry’s technologies and capabilities. Develop and implement sourcing strategies that ensure quality and cost efficiency. Support production troubleshooting to ensure smooth order execution and customer satisfaction. Interface with machine shops, fabrication partners, internal teams, and clients to drive project success.
Participate in initiatives to expand and strengthen Xometry’s manufacturing partner network and technical capabilities.
Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in Manufacturing Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or a related technical field. 2–4 years of experience in an engineering or manufacturing environment. 1–2 years of hands-on manufacturing engineering experience focusing on CNC machining and/or sheet metal fabrication. Strong understanding of process cycle times, material and geometry limitations, and cost optimization.
Experience collaborating with suppliers, OEMs, and customers. Proficiency in 3D CAD modeling software (SolidWorks preferred). Solid knowledge of GD&T and inspection/QA practices. Proven ability to identify DFM issues from CAD models and technical drawings. Experience with CNC machining, sheet metal fabrication, and 3D printing is highly desirable.
Additional Technical Expertise (Preferred) Knowledge of 3/4/5-axis milling and turning with live tooling. Familiarity with post-processing and plating finishes for machined parts. Experience with specialty processes such as EDM, grinding, honing, and lapping. Understanding of material selection and forming technologies (press brake, laser/waterjet cutting, welding, stamping).
