Job Title: Fiber Optics Technician III

SUMMARY
the Engineering Technician III performs standardized or prescribed assignments involving a sequence of related operations, follows standard work methods on recurring assignments but receives explicit instructions on unfamiliar assignments. Technical adequacy of routine work is reviewed on completion; non-routine work may be reviewed in progress. This technician performs at this level, one or a combination of such typical duties as:

Following specific instructions, assembles or constructs simple or standard equipment or parts, servicing or repairing simple instruments or equipment;   Conducting a variety of tests using established methods, preparing test specimens, adjusting and operating equipment, recording test data, and pointing out deviations resulting from equipment malfunction or observational errors;   Extracting engineering data from various prescribed but non-standardized sources, processing the data following well-defined methods including elementary algebra and geometry, and presenting the data in prescribed form.

JOB DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Responsibilities/Duties:
·         Establishes communications systems by installing, operating, and maintaining voice and data telecommunications network circuits and equipment. Also responsible for supervising Jr Technicians and Laborers.
·         Plans network installations by studying customer orders, plans, manuals, and technical specifications; ordering and gathering equipment, supplies, materials, and tools, assessing installation site; preparing an installation diagram.
·         Establishes voice and data networks by running, pulling, terminating, and splicing cables; installing telecommunications equipment, routers, switches, multiplexors, and cable trays; building ironwork and ladder racks; establishing connections; programming features; establishing connections and integrations; following industry standards; activating remote access tools; coordinating with contractors.
·         Verifies service by testing circuits, equipment, and alarms; identifying, correcting, or escalating problems.
·         Documents network by labeling and routing equipment and cables; recording configuration diagrams and specifications.
·         Maintains network by troubleshooting and repairing outages; testing network back-up procedures; updating documentation.
·         Maintains customer rapport by listening to and resolving concerns; answering questions.
·         Maintains safe work environment by following codes, standards, and legal regulations.
·         Updates job knowledge by participating in educational opportunities; reading technical publications.
·         Enhances department and organization reputation by accepting ownership for accomplishing new and different requests; exploring opportunities to add value to job accomplishments.

QUALIFICATIONS
Required Certifications
·         Preferred Qualifications:
·         BICSI Certifications

Education, Background, and Years of Experience
·         2+ years of experience with installing, operating, and maintaining voice and data telecommunications network circuits and equipment.
·         Must be able to pass a background check.
·         Must be able to commute on-site daily. (China Lake, CA)

ADDITIONAL SKILLS & QUALIFICATIONS
Required Skills
·         Fiber Optic Skills. Power tool knowledge.

·         Medium – 50 lbs. Maximum lifting with frequent lift/carry up to 25 lbs.
